L:I:S:T Maker CMX **DEMO**
Ver. 1.0
*************************************************************
All functions of this DEMO program limit the list to
FIVE entries. Lists can be saved only as "demo.edl" or
"demo.lmx" .
*************************************************************
Thank you for your purchase of L:I:S:T Maker CMX.
This program was designed as a PC/Windows based tool to allow
off-line logging of a batch digitizing list or a simple
"cuts only" edit decision list. The program produces a
simple non-drop frame CMX340 style list that can be imported
into some non-linear systems (its original intent) as well as
some linear systems. It does not directly interface with any
video equipment. Time codes are derived from using
window burns, a time code reader or the front panel display
of a video deck with time code display capability.
L:I:S:T Maker CMX is relatively simple in its use, with a few
input limitations:
TAPE/REEL box is limited to three characters, numbers only.
CLIP box, for a short scene or clip description, is limited to
twenty-five characters and responds to standard text editing
functions (except Insert and Control + V).
START and STOP boxes are limited to legitimate time code
entries and the general rules regarding time code.
TRACKS box responds only to the 1, 2, and 3 numerical keys on
the keyboard or numberpad, and will register the following:
1 = A1
2 = A2
3 = V
Their combinations appear in the LIST box as follows:
TRACKS entry LIST entry
------------ ----------
A1 -> A
A2 -> A2
V -> V
A1 & A2 -> AA
A1 & V -> B
A2 & V -> A2/V
A1 & A2 & V -> AA/V
They are toggling-- i.e. "A1" can be entered or removed by
hitting "1".
COMMENTS box is limited to two hundred characters and responds
to standard editing functions (except Insert and Control + V).
DURATION box is for reference and will respond when complete
START and STOP time codes are entered.
LIST box is limited to a maximum of 64K of information. This
corresponds to about 990 list entries in a CMX (.edl) format
or about 225 list entries with full CLIP and COMMENTS boxes in
a L:I:S:T Maker CMX (.lmx) format. L:I:S:T Maker CMX generates
a warning when approaching this limit (at the 60K mark),
prompting the user to save and create a new file. OPEN and
ADD LIST will abort at the mark. Forcing the list beyond the
64K maximum will create a fatal error and crash the program.
For 99.9% of anybody's work this 64K threshold is not a problem,
but it is prudent to have this warning.
A COUPLE OF SHORT CUTS
----------------------
Putting no entry in the TRACKS box will assume the A1 & A2 & V
combination and print "AA/V" in the list entry when adding the
input to the LIST box.
A double click on a line of the list will put the input of
that line into its proper boxes for editing.
MOVING AROUND THE SCREEN
------------------------
In its simplest use, after typing input in a box, hitting
"Enter" will put the cursor on the next box. After typing
information, if any, in the COMMENTS box, hitting "Enter"
will put focus on the ADD button. A second "Enter" will add
the input to the LIST box and erase all input boxes except
TAPE/REEL.
You can position the cursor to any input box by clicking on the
box or its label.
When working in the input boxes, the up and down arrow keys
(the ones not on the numberpad) will move the cursor between
the input boxes without going to the ADD or EDIT button.
**IT IS RECOMMENDED THAT THE NUMLOCK BE LEFT ON.**
The Tab or Shift + Tab keys will move the cursor between input
boxes and also to the ADD and EDIT buttons. Non-mousers may
use the INPUT menu to access a specific box or the Control + L
key combination to access the LIST box.
Once in the LIST box, the up and down keys will move selection
of line entries in the list. The Control + R key combination
will RETRIEVE ENTRY. The Tab key will return focus to the EDIT
button.
EDIT BUTTON FUNCTIONS
---------------------
After retrieving a list item by double click or by EDIT menu,
you may alter the contents of the input boxes. If not using
ADD to put an edited entry at the end of the list, you can
UPDATE, INSERT after, or DELETE a highlighted list entry by
clicking the EDIT button.
UPDATE will replace a highlighted entry with the information
in the input boxes and clear the input boxes except for the
TAPE/REEL box.
INSERT will place a new list entry directly below a highlighted
entry and clear the input boxes except for the TAPE/REEL box.
DELETE will erase a highlighted list entry. You can also use
the Shift + Delete key combination for this function.
FILE MENU FUNCTIONS
-------------------
NEW will clear all work on the screen and rename the list as
"Untitled." Before clearing the screen, you will be asked if
you want to save your work.
OPEN will replace any work in the LIST box with a previously
saved file (the files used by this program MUST be ones
created with L:I:S:T Maker CMX). You will be asked if you want
to save your work.
ADD LIST will add a previously saved L:I:S:T Maker CMX file to
the LIST box. If no insert point is selected, it will be added
after the last item in the current list. If a list entry is
highlighted, the file will be inserted after that position
in the list.
PRINT has two optiions.
.EDL FORMAT prints the list and CLIP information.
.LMX FORMAT prints the list, CLIP and COMMENTS information.
EDIT MENU FUNCTIONS
-------------------
Most items in this menu are functions already on the screen
and described earlier with the following additions:
CLEAR INPUT will erase all the input boxes except TAPE/REEL
and leave the current list.
CLEAR LIST will erase all work in the LIST box.
SHORTCUT KEY FUNCTIONS
----------------------
Control + S ...................... Save
Control + P ...................... Print - .lmx Format
Control + A ...................... Add
Control + R ...................... Retrieve Entry
Control + L ...................... Go to List box
Shift + Delete ................... Delete (in List box)
Control + F1 ..................... CLEAR INPUT (except TAPE/REEL)
Control + F12 .................... CLEAR LIST
FILE NAMES AND EXTENSIONS
-------------------------
File names are limited to a maximum of SIX characters (not
including the .edl or .lmx extensions). A list may be
saved with the following extensions:
.edl ........ CMX340 style list. CLIP entries saved as a
comment line (exporting version of the LIST).
.lmx ........ L:I:S:T Maker CMX style list. CLIP and
COMMENTS entries saved in propriatory format.
I hope this program saves you some time and money for your
video productions.
